Pizza Logs
Pepperoni, cheese and sauce rolled up in egg roll wrappers and deep-fried until crispy. A local bar-menu favorite.
๐ Where to get the best pizza logs
- 1 Taylor's Tap & Grill Wheatfield's made-from-scratch neighborhood bar and grill, home of giant homemade "Pizza Trunks" (pizza logs), famous chicken tenders, an outstanding Friday fish fry, and a patio. A snowmobile trail leads right to the door.
- 2 Mr. Ventry's Pizza on the Boulevard A local, family Italian restaurant on Niagara Falls Blvd, known for fresh specialty pizzas, calzones, homemade pastas and soups, subs and jumbo wings.
๐ A little history
Pizza logs are what they sound like: pizza fillings, usually mozzarella and pepperoni, rolled in an egg-roll wrapper and fried or baked until crisp. You'll find them on Western New York bar menus, in freezer aisles and at game-day parties.
The best-known brand, Original Pizza Logs, is made by Finger Food Products. The company says founder Robert Cordova tried countless recipes before settling on a wonton-style wrapper, and it gives 1991 as its founding year. Today it makes them in Sanborn, in Niagara County, and it has been the official finger food of the Buffalo Bills since 2014. The idea isn't unique to Buffalo, though: Jeno's advertised a frozen snack called "Pizza Logs" as far back as 1970.
Did you know? Pizza logs are produced just outside Niagara Falls, in Sanborn, so this regional snack is about as local to the Falls as it gets.
